Provetree vs DeltaMath

DeltaMath and Provetree answer different questions.

If your family already uses DeltaMath, you don’t need a replacement for it. You need the one thing a practice engine can’t tell you: whether all those right answers are understanding, or a procedure your learner is running without knowing what it means.

The short answer

DeltaMath produces the accuracy. Provetree checks whether the accuracy is understanding.

Keep DeltaMath. It is good at something we deliberately don’t do — volume of practice, across far more of math than we cover, with the grading handled for you. We are the short check you run beside it when you want to know what the percentage actually means.

    A learner proves the same idea more than one way — equations, graphs, tables, word problems, and worked steps — instead of answering the same question in the same form repeatedly.

  • Deliberately narrow

    Algebra Foundations for grades 6–9. Far less ground than DeltaMath covers, on purpose: it is the ground algebra readiness is decided on.

  • About ten minutes

    The free Readiness Check runs five concepts, one round each. It is not a daily workload — it is a check you run when you want to know where a learner actually stands.

  • Reports where it broke down

    A wrong pick gets feedback about that specific misconception rather than a generic “try again”. The parent report shows, concept by concept, the accuracy, the hints used, and which form the learner is weakest in.

What a practice engine can tell you

Useful, and genuinely hard to get any other way at that price. It tells you the practice happened and the answers were right.

What Provetree adds

A per-skill percentage cannot say that: each question behind it was marked in the form it was asked in, so nothing in the total compares one form against another. Ask for the same idea in a different form and the gap has nowhere to hide.

It is the second line that tells you what to do on Monday.

Where DeltaMath is the better tool

It covers far more math

Roughly 6th grade to AP Calculus, against our Algebra Foundations for grades 6–9. Once a learner has started Algebra 1, DeltaMath has content for them and we do not.

It is a workhorse; we are a check

DeltaMath is something you can assign every day, with as many problems as a learner needs. The Readiness Check is five rounds in about ten minutes. It will not fill a math block.

It teaches the procedure

Worked solutions and videos walk a learner through the steps. We deliberately don’t: we show evidence and ask the learner to find the rule, which is a different job and a poor substitute for instruction.

It is already inexpensive

DeltaMath has a free tier that a lot of families run on happily. We are not going to pretend that a one-time price is a dramatic saving against free.

What you can only get here

It asks for the same idea in more than one form

A concept shows up as equations, graphs, tables, word problems, and worked steps, and the learner has to recognise it in each. A learner who has memorised a procedure can pass a page of identical problems; they cannot pass this.

A wrong answer says what went wrong

A wrong pick returns feedback about that specific misconception — what the card the learner chose actually represents — instead of marking it wrong and moving on.

The parent report names the weak form

Concept by concept: attempts, accuracy, hints used, and which form the learner is weakest in. That last one is the part a single-format practice tool has no way to compute.

Should you add it?

Probably not, if

  • Your learner has already started Algebra 1. We cover what comes before it; DeltaMath keeps going from there.
  • You are looking for something to replace a daily math block. This is a check, not a curriculum.
  • You want a learner taught the steps from scratch. DeltaMath’s worked solutions and videos do that; we start from evidence instead.

Worth it, if

  • Your learner scores well in practice and then stumbles on an outside placement test.
  • You suspect the right answers are a procedure being run rather than an idea being understood.
  • You are deciding whether a learner is ready for Algebra 1 and want more than a percentage to go on.
